Course/Training :
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) carries out the process of
selection for entry into the civil services. Graduates between 21 and 30yrs
of age are allowed to make a maximum of four attempts at the civil service
examination. The UPSC grants relaxation in age and number of attempts to
candidates belonging to SC/ST (Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes) if they are
otherwise eligible. OBC candidates are allowed a maximum of seven attempts
while there is no restriction on the number of attempts for SC/ST candidates.
The written examination consists of nine papers of conventional essay type in
the following subjects:
One Indian
language
English
(Both examinations are qualifying in nature and do not contribute to merit
rank)

General
Studies – two papers

Subject I- two papers

Placements/Prospects
Through this civil service examination the UPSC recruits personnel to services
such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Indian Police Service (IPS)
Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the many services falling under Central
Allied Services group “A” and Group “B” (Among them are P&T Accounts and
Finance Services, Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Indian Revenue Services
and Central Secretariat Service )
