The chosen officer could serve in The Indian Army, Indian Air Force, or Indian
Navy on combat duty, on administrative assignments, in the medical services,
in the engineering services, in the Judge Advocate-General’s Department (JAG’s
Dept), The Education Corps, in any one of the departments.

Pattern of the NDA/Naval Academy Examination
There is one common written examination for entry into Army, Air Force and
Naval Wings of NDA and 10+2 (Executive Branch) of Naval Academy on the
following patterns
Mathematics - 2½ hours – 300 marks
General Ability - 2½ hours – 600 marks
Papers will consist of Objective type questions only; set only in English
Armed Forces Medical College
Those willing to join the Armed Forces Medical Services as permanent
commissioned officers after graduation (MBBS) may join the Armed Forces
Medical College (AFMC) Pune. Admission to MBBS course at Armed Forces Medical
College, Pune (130 candidates including a maximum of 25 girls) is open to
unmarried candidates passed XII /pre-professional/premedical exam or
equivalent exam as regular student in the first attempt in English, Physics,
Chemistry and Biology securing not less than 60% marks in three science
subjects taken together not les than 50% marks in each of the science subjects
and not less than 50% marks in English . Must have attained 17yrs but not
attained age of 22 yrs as on 31st December of the ear of joining
Military Nursing Service
4 year B.Sc (Nursing) at College of Nursing, AFMC, Pune and 3yr Diploma in
General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) Course at various Armed Forces Hospitals is
open to Indian females who are unmarried or divorced or legally separated or
widows without encumbrances. Should have passed in the First Attempt 10+2 exam
with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum of 50% marks. Age should be
between 16 and 24 yrs
10+2 Technical Entry Scheme Indian Army
Unmarried male candidates not below 16 ½ yrs if age and not above 19½yrs on
the first day of the month and who have passed 10+2 / equivalent with minimum
aggregate of 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics may apply for
10+2 Technical Entry Scheme for grant of permanent commission in the Army
after 5yrs of Basic Military Training and Technical Training
After Graduation : Entry Schemes Combined Defence Services Examination
The Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) is held twice every year for
entry into the defence force. The Combined Defence Service Examination is
conducted by the UPSC followed by the system similar to the one given

Candidates who wish to opt for the OTA (for the Short Service Commission) need

Training
Candidates joining through the CDSE undergo the following schedule of training
At the Military Academy, Army Cadets are given strenuous military training for
a period of 18months. Candidates selected for training at Naval Academy are
appointed as cadets in the Executive Branch of Navy and undergo training in
naval ships and establishments for over a three year period. Candidates
joining Air Force Academy undergo training for the flying branch (Pilots) for
about 74 weeks. Candidates joining the Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai
undergo approximately nine months of training. Candidates selected through
other schemes of entry undergo varied schedules of training.
