The world of fashion offers a variety of careers to choose from. Designing is
one major option with various specializations to choose from. One can become a
fashion designer specializing in garments for various occasions and uses or
become a designer of garment made with material such as leather or using
knitwear. A fashion designer knows how to design garments and also aware of
all the processes which go into assembling of a garment. Some fashion
designers do their own pattern cutting- a task which requires great precision
and ingenuity.
Courses/Training :
Professional training in this field helps to develop one’s ability and
channelise creativity. Almost all the polytechnics (government or Private)
especially those for women., offer courses in fashion designing or dress
designing or costume designing. Many of them may offer accessory design
courses. Most of these courses are open to students after completion of plus
two or equivalent level of education. Admission to these courses is usually on
the basis of aptitude test evaluating flair for designing and sketching, sense
of perspective in two and three dimensional space. Aesthetic sensitivity and
skill in visualization.
