Learning foreign languages may be one way of giving full rein to a flair for
languages or it may lead to the rendering of certain specialized services
which are highly challenging and remunerative.
Translating
Translators should have a good general educational background, some basic
knowledge of the culture of the countries whose languages they are using
specialized range of knowledge in a variety of subjects so that they are able to
handle a large variety of translating assignments. Translators are employed by
government organizations dealing with foreign government or agencies in the
discharge of their function.
Interpreting
Intepretors should be comfortable with the idiomatic uses of the various
languages so as not to dilute the impact of a dialogue or discussion.
Interpreters have to transmit the meaning of the phrase in near-perfect style
almost instantaneously and automatically.
