Paramilitary Services

The paramilitary services or the Central Police Organisations (CPSs) such as the Indo – Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Border Security Force (BSF) Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Services Bureau (SSB) offer challenge and adventure with no trace of monotony.

Selection Process

Staff Selection Commission holds a competitive examination for recruitment to posts of Sub-Inspector in the Central Police Organisations (CPOs). Graduates between 20 and 25 years of age are eligible to apply. Possession of NCC ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate or outstanding sports or athletic certificate is considered desirable for these posts although for BSF, only NCC ‘B’ certificate is acceptable. Written Examination consists of Paper I and Paper II and candidates who qualify in Paper I of the written examination are put through Eligibility Tests and the Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

PET includes :

a.                  100 m race in 16 sec for men , in 18 sec for women

b.                 1.8 km race in 8 mts for men and 800 m race in 4 mts for women

c.                  Long Jump 3.5 m in 3 chances for men, 9 ft in 3 chances for women

d.                 High Jump 1.2 m in 3 chances for men, 3 ft in 3 chances for women

e.                  Shot Put (16lbs) 4.5 m in 3 chances only for men

Only  those candidates who  qualify in the written examination fixed by the Commission as well as the PET and medical examination would be called for the interview. After the interview the final merit list is drawn. Finally the selected candidates have to pass seven obstacle events (a to g)  as part of training curriculum, failing which they may not be retained in the Force :

a.                  Jumping over the Vertical Board

b.                 Holding the rope on jumping from the Board

c.                  Tarzan Swing

d.                 Jumping on the Horizontal Board

e.                  Parallel Rope

f.                   Monkey Crawl

g.                  Vertical Rope

Both Male and Female may apply for the post of Assistant Commandment in CRPF and CISF. Only male candidates may apply for appointment to the post of Asst. Commander in BSF, ITBP and SSB.
