creative, literary and technical. Publishers should have a certain amount of
flair for the literary and artistic in combination with business acumen and
marketing skills. A Publishing firm has three major departments editorial,
production and promotion and marketing.
Course/Training
Professional training opportunities in book publishing in India are limited.
Specialised jobs in a publishing firm are handled wby persons who have training
in printing technology, book binding, lithography, letter press, offset printing
and so on. These courses are in the vocational stream of education and can be
pursued after completion of the plus two or equivalent level of education at the
vocational training institutes or polytechnics, or Industrial Training
Institutes (ITIs) run by state governments or private bodies recognized by the
government. Admissions to institutes run by state governments are on the basis
of state domicile. The duration of course varies from one to three years
