Teachers are the most vital link in the process of education. They shape the
lives of their students who constitute our future. Theirs is an awesome
responsibility. Methods of teaching have undergone many changes in nursery,
primary, secondary and senior secondary schools. Teachers can then cahnnelise
the children’s interest to some purpose in their teaching.
Nursery Schools/Classes
Teachers keep the children engaged with games, recitation singing drawing and
clay modeling / other craft sessions. Children are provided toys, colouring, and
craft equipment and picture books. Teachers have to inculcate manners,
discipline and social habits in the children as part of their daily schedule and
also have to be fully involved with their students and gradually and informally
introduce them to oral learning.
Primary Schools/Classes
From Class I to Class V teachers have to stimulate the children’s natural
enthusiasm for learning and thus widen their experience. In primary classes
teachers teach a range of subjects to their own class. Some schools have
separate teachers for second language and mathematics. Primary Teachers have to
spend time and effort preparing lessons for teaching also organize periodic
assessments to check the students progress
Secondary Schools/Classes
At this stage serious academic study is the teachers’ main responsibility. They
have to teach one/two subjects in all classes and guide students to discover the
facts by themselves. Here the responsibility and work pressure is increased.
Senior Secondary Classes
Teachers in classes XI and XII have to teach a specialized subject to the
students set projects evaluate them and help them to establish their own
techniques of study. They have to sensibily allow the students enough freedom to
evolve their own approach to studies and channelise their efforts in the right
direction
Special Schools
Such Schools cater to the specific and special needs of the children who are
mentally or visually handicapped or totally mute or have multiple disabilities
or are spastics. Special training is required to teach children with special
needs and in smaller groups. Teachers have to gain the children’s trust and help
them develop self-confidence. With the teachers help handicapped children learn
how to associate with people around them.
Course/Training
Nursery teachers training, also referred to as Early Childhood Care Education
may be taken up after successful completion of plus two or equivalent
examinations. Primary school teachers are sometimes inducted on the basis of
Diploma in Education after completing plus two or equivalent examinations.
Candidates may opt for a B.Ed (Bachelo of Education ) degree with teaching
method for primary classes for specialization. B.Ed programme after graduation
equips one for the post of a secondary school teacher and it also offers scope
for specialization in the method of teaching of two school subject . Bachelor of
Education (B.Ed) is of one year duration . The minimum eligibility to join B.Ed
courses is usually a graduate degree. Some may conduct an entrance exam for
admission of B.Ed Course.
