Tourism serves as the promoter of national and international goodwill among
communities of a country and among nationalities of various countries. Indian
tourism is in the revival mode. The tourism industry is a service industry
with work opportunities in both the public and private sectors. Department of
tourism of the Central Government and state governments formulates policies,
select and develop centres of tourist attraction and provide travel and
transport facilities to tourists both from abroad and within the country.
Course/Training
The First stage when formal study of tourism can commence is after completion of
plus two or equivalent examination in any discipline. Vocational colleges in the
country and undergraduate courses offer tourism as a discipline. Polytechnics
offer training programmes in certain aspects of tourism and travel. This level
of qualification leads to jobs in travel agencies as well as in government
departments airlines and hotels but does not offer prospects for much growth and
promotion in the industry
